The future is in old things, rustic things, things that have matured until they became boring and hermetic. Things that no longer turn profit: their efficiency gains remain in the systems that produced them, entangled in the tool and its lore. These are gains that are suitable only to fuel the production of more beautiful questions, exquisite doubt and idiosyncratic interest. The future is blunt tools in adept hands. The future will occupy less space than its past. We will have narrow futures, sliver-shaped futures, that provide sufficient space to dwell for a heart and a soul.
